This #GivingTuesday, December 1st, will you help us kick off our end-of-year giving by saying farewell to 2020 and hello to housing in 2021? Our goal is to raise $27,000 to provide a month of emergency shelter and move-ins for our neighbors in need.

We have a large number of individuals who are unsheltered homeless living in places not meant for human habitation, as well as many homeless families who are using area motels as permanent residences, falling under the McKinney-Vento definition of homelessness. This is a devastating reality as pandemic restrictions have impacted the availability of congregate shelter, access to running water and food, and a shortage of hourly wage jobs. We continue to adapt and are proud to be fighting the issue of homelessness on two fronts.

  1. Our new “Bridge to Home” emergency shelter program provides a safety net shelter to those in danger of sleeping on the streets this winter as we see area thermal shelters forced to close for most of their season due to the pandemic. For many people, this is the only source of shelter right now while congregate shelters remained closed.
  2. Mercy Housing continues to expand and our case managers help families take the leap to permanent housing. More families with children are choosing to work with our housing office to evaluate their budget, find affordable housing, and move their family into stable, safe housing.
