The Rotary Club of James City County donated $10,000 to add walk-in cold storage for Williamsburg House of Mercy. The cold storage is for the fresh food distributed on the food pantry line and served at the Community Kitchen. Williamsburg House of Mercy is beginning their long-term COVID response plan on July 1st with a reconfiguration of their space to provide an outdoor sheltered space for the homeless, Community Kitchen meals, and to meet with clients who need other financial assistance services. They are also adding walk-in cold storage and a medical clinic in order to maintain and expand their food distribution and homeless services for the increased number of clients they now serve. Emergency COVID response services will continue throughout this reconfiguration. They are also preparing to help families return to stability through increased homelessness prevention when the courts begin enforcing evictions beginning on July 1. Their eviction prevention and utilities disconnect services will help families stay safe and strong during this time.
