Williamsburg House of Mercy advocates for healthcare with Senator Norment

(See original article here)

Williamsburg House of Mercy Executive Director and Saint Bede Catholic Church Director of Pastoral Services, Shannon Woloszynowski met with Senator Norment to advocate for programs and resources to pay for medical care for our homeless, working poor, and those awaiting approval for social security and disability aid. Too many times, individuals seeking help at Williamsburg House of Mercy come to us when they are caught in the gap between making the choice to exit the cycle of poverty and having necessary, stabilizing resources accessible. Our goal is to bridge the gap and begin the process of long term stability through a dignifying and welcoming relationship. As Catholics, we believe that healthcare is a human dignity issue and we advocate for a state healthcare budget that “covers all and protects all” (see the Virginia Catholics Conference article: http://vacatholic.org/state-budget-should-cover-all-protect-all/).
