The Flying Needles Yarn Shop hosted their second annual Handmade for the Homeless Project. Thanks to the generosity of local knitters, the Williamsburg House of Mercy will be able to distribute more than 330 handmade hats, scarves, gloves, and blankets for homeless men, women and children. In addition to organizing the community’s creative efforts, The Flying Needles also collected packaged items like razors, toilet paper, undergarments and packaged socks.

Williamsburg House of Mercy Executive Director, Shannon Woloszynowski says, “We are so thankful for the time and care put into these Handmade for the Homeless items because they truly personalize our homeless neighbors. It is incredibly touching to see the appreciation and emotion as people realize that these gifts are crafted and given to them as if they were family members of the knitters. This event truly captures the Williamsburg House of Mercy emphasis on dignity and irreplaceability of each person we serve.”
