Thank you for choosing to “Be Mercy” for GiveLocal757!

Thank you, sincerely, for your support in the GiveLocal757 campaign! We were so humbled to see your comments on our “Stories of Mercy” posts and genuinely touched by your public sharing of our mission! To date you gave $ 7437.17 from more than 117 donors on the May 8th, the GiveLocal757 Peninsula nonprofit giving day. Several donors gave in a particular way to meet individual mission goals: we housed two families, fed 2000 people through Mobile Food Pantry sponsorships and gained several new “mission partners.”

William & Mary students aid the homeless and families

We would also like to highlight a community partnership that has made a tremendous impact: the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at the College of William & Mary. These young men have lead their campus in multiple efforts to better our community.

In the fall, you may have seen the results of their campus clothing drive. Because of their efforts, we were able to distribute more than 400 articles of winter clothing to the area homeless. Their clothing drive won them a campus-wide grant from the William & Mary Office of Engagement, which they used to purchase 14 pairs of commercial grade boots for our neighbors in need. With record low temperatures throughout the winter, this was particularly important.

Most recently, Kappa Sigma Fraternity closed the school year with a doubles tennis tournament where they raised $2,433.71 to fund our Mobile Food Pantry for the summer and purchase some family friendly items for our Emergency Food Pantry.

These students’ timing is so important for the families of Williamsburg. With the school year coming to a close, we see a tremendous increase in need from families whose children rely on the breakfast and lunch programs for the bulk of their meals.

With the fresh produce, meats and other items from the Mobile Food Pantry, and a base of macaroni and cheese, peanut butter and jelly in the Emergency Food Pantry, the young men and women of William& Mary took time out from studying for finals in order to ensure that the next generation of students has a head start to food stable summer.
